The Act

This page contains information about the Electricity Industry Act 2010 (Act) under which the Authority is set up.

The Government established the Authority in 2010 under the Act to oversee the governance and operation of New Zealand's electricity market.

The objective of the Authority is to promote competition in, reliable supply by, and the efficient operation of, the electricity industry for the long-term benefit of consumers.
