Compliance

Most of the Authority's compliance functions are discharged by the Authority's Compliance Committee. The Compliance Committee is a Board Committee made up of three Board members.

Compliance philosophy

The Authority has a compliance philosophy of encouraging continuous improvement by participants in the effective, efficient and reliable operation of the electricity industry for the long-term benefit of consumers:

Review of compliance framework

The Authority is reviewing the compliance framework within which it operates. This review follows on from the Authority's compliance conference in November 2011.

The Authority's objective from this review is to answer the following question: Given the Authority's compliance philosophy, what is the best compliance framework to assist in achieving the Authority's statutory objective?

The compliance framework within which the Authority operates consists of the regulatory arrangements within which the monitoring, investigation and enforcement of the rules of the New Zealand electricity market occur. The rules are set out in the Electricity Industry Act 2010, any regulations made under the Act, and in the Electricity Industry Participation Code 2010.

Talk to an investigator

The Authority's compliance team is offering a service to help participants understand their obligations under legislation covering the electricity sector.

The team is made up of three investigators who have extensive experience in compliance matters involving the Electricity Industry Participation Code 2010, the Electricity Industry Act 2010 and the regulations made under the Act.

The Authority has a compliance philosophy of encouraging continuous improvement by electricity sector participants. To that end, the investigators are available to answer specific queries, provide an overview of generic compliance issues and support participants' efforts to keep their compliance policies and processes current.
