Working with Consumer Affairs

On 8 July 2010, the Electricity Commission and CA developed and agreed the set of principles below, which outline the way they will work together to achieve the Government Policy outcome.

Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)

The Authority and CA have developed an MOU which captures how they will work together over the next three and a half years to deliver the Government Policy outcomes.

Both parties agreed to extend the term of the MOU (which was due to expire on 28 February 2012) for a further 12 months.

Consumer Switching Fund strategy - Study of the potential for switching

To determine how to achieve the Government Policy Outcomes, a study of the potential for switching and barriers preventing this needs to be undertaken. This will culminate in an agreed Consumer Switching Fund strategy based on:

  • Understanding potential;
  • Identifying barriers;
  • Clarifying the objective; and
  • Determining criteria/measurement for success.
Joint annual workplan In keeping with the MOU, and based on the study of the potential for switching, the Authority and CA will develop and agree a joint workplan that outlines key tasks, milestones and responsibilities.
Communication and Reporting In communicating and reporting on the approach and progress being made, both the Authority and CA will agree and adopt a collaborative approach to media releases and with public reporting requirements
