New guide to help consumers manage spot price risk
The Authority has today released a new guide to help consumers understand and better manage the inherent risks of buying electricity at wholesale spot market prices.
The guide is one of a number of Authority initiatives to strengthen the electricity hedge market by providing greater transparency and more confidence in the electricity forward price curve.
Managing electricity price risk: A guide for consumers offers practical information and examples on a range of issues including:
the different ways of buying electricity
spot price volatility
how different options affect exposure to spot price risk
limiting spot price risk and choosing the appropriate level of exposure
stress testing as a tool
what principles should govern choices about risk
where to get more information or advice on spot price risk issues.

Current consultations
Policy Statement and Procurement Plan amendment processes
The Authority and system operator consider there are opportunities to improve the process by which the policy statement and procurement plan are reviewed and amended. As the review process is prescribed in the Code, the Authority is now consulting on a Code amendment to give effect to its proposal.

Operational review of Part 6
The Authority is consulting on proposed changes to Part 6 of the Code, which deals with the connection of distributed generation to distribution networks, with associated changes to Parts 1 and 17.

Consulting on appropriations, work priorities and programme
The Electricity Authority and the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) are consulting on proposed 2013/14 annual appropriations and their respective work programmes. A joint consultation paper covers Authority appropriations and those EECA and Consumer Affairs activities that are funded by the levy on industry participants.
