New Zealand electricity hedge contracts
A robust hedge market is a critical element in promoting competition and efficiency in generation and retail markets.
Information plays an important part in building market confidence and strength, and to assist interested parties in tracking market development, the Authority publishes NZ Electricity Hedge Contracts as a standard section of its weekly Market Brief.
NZ Electricity Hedge Contracts sets out unmatched open interest (UOI) and plots progress towards ASX New Zealand futures market targets set by the Authority on 20 October 2011.
The first target of 1,000 GWh UOI was met by the target date of 1 December 2011. The second target is 2,000 GWh UOI by 1 March 2012 and the third is 3,000 GWh by 1 June 2012.
