Security of supply

The objective of the Authority is to promote competition in, reliable supply by, and the efficient operation of, the electricity industry for the long-term benefit of consumers. Reliability (or security) of supply has many different aspects.

Provision of information and short- to medium-term forecasting of security of supply, and management of security emergencies, are now the responsibility of the System Operator. Work that was undertaken in these areas by the Electricity Commission between 15 September 2003 and 31 October 2010 is archived on this website.
