Market Development Advisory Group (disestablished)

The Market Development Advisory Group (MDAG) provided advice to the Authority (as and when requested by the Authority) on the development of the wholesale electricity market, including the inter-related markets for energy (spot), ancillary services, and risk management contracts, such as financial derivatives for energy and location hedges.

In 2010 the Authority carried out a general review of its advisory groups. This led to the Authority's decision to establish three new standing advisory groups - the Retail Advisory Group, the Transmission Advisory Group, and the Wholesale Advisory Group. Consequently, the Market Development Advisory Group was disestablished.

The members of the Market Development Advisory Group were:

  • James Moulder (Chair)
  • Grant Sullivan (Meridian)
  • John Woods (Contact)
  • Richard Spearman (Trustpower)
  • Lisa Dhanji (Transpower)
  • Jason Franklin (New Zealand Aluminium Services)
  • Stan Jerome (Fonterra)
  • Stephen Peterson (Simply Energy)
  • John Walsh (Independent)
  • John Carnegie (Business New Zealand)
  • Sue Chetwin (Consumer New Zealand)

Tim Street, Director Wholesale, was the Authority's representative on the group.
