On 12 March 2013, the Authority released a consultation paper seeking feedback on draft strategic directions. The consultation closed on 23 April 2013.
On 6 August 2013 the Authority published its strategic directions for market development. The strategic directions form part of the Authority’s strategic framework and have been incorporated in the Authority’s 2013–2016 statement of intent (SOI).
The strategic directions reflect the Authority’s view of the key challenges and characteristics likely to influence the electricity sector in the next 10 years. The Authority’s focus or strategic directions for market development are to develop a workably competitive electricity market by:
- reducing barriers to entry, expansion and exit of parties in electricity markets
- facilitating consumer participation
- providing efficient price signals
- promoting flexibility and resilience into the market and market systems.
