The Electricity Governance Regulations 2003 (Regulations) and the Electricity Governance Rules 2003 (Rules) were introduced in December 2003. The set of rules was inherited from the electricity industry's self-governing arrangements which existed prior to the Commission's establishment in September 2003. The Commission was charged with developing the rules and regulations to ensure best conditions existed for workable and effective competition and to ensure that the government's other objectives for the electricity sector were met.

In future it is likely that widespread collective international concerns about the possible effects of global warming will result in the cost of carbon dioxide emission being reflected in thermal fuel costs. If these carbon costs increase over time then investment in higher levels of renewable generation will be economically efficient. A potential outcome of this is that by 2020 over 90% of energy generation in New Zealand would be provided from renewable sources. Phrase search
By putting words in double quotation marks you can search for the exact phrase. Otherwise, every word of your search will be present in each of your result, regardless of their order.
Example: The search Market Brief will find results containing phrases such as “a brief introduction to the market". The search "Market Brief" on the other hand only finds this exact phrase.
Boolean search
You can use any of the following Boolean operators in your search:
- Use 'AND' to find content containing all of the words: e.g. Advisory AND Group. The a 'AND' operator is the default, so the query "Electricity Commission" produces "Electricity AND Commission" results.
- Use 'OR' to find content containing at least one of the words: e.g. Electricity OR Efficiency produces results that have either Electricity or Efficiency in them.
- Use '-' to exclude results that contain the selected word: e.g. Forum - Transmission produces results that have Forum in them, but not Transmission.
Sort my results
The 'Sort my results by' option allow you to change the way you view your search results, e.g. if you click on 'Title' then your results will be listed alphabetically from A to Z by title; if you click on 'Most viewed' then your results will be listed from the most viewed to the least viewed.
