Why thermal fuel information is important

Information about how much thermal fuel (gas, solid fuels and diesel) is available in New Zealand’s power system is important for understanding electricity security of supply risks. It also helps market participants to make informed risk management decisions.

This data is provided to the Electricity Authority Te Mana Hiko from thermal generators under clause 2.16 of the Electricity Industry Participation Code 2010 and is updated monthly.

There are also other sources of useful information published by a range of parties on thermal fuel supply, storage and cost.
