Improving access to thermal fuel information

  • Policy
  • Wholesale

The Electricity Authority Te Mana Hiko is seeking submissions on a proposal to improve the collection and publication of information on the availability of thermal fuels.

Information about the thermal fuel availability is critical for understanding security of supply risks.

The proposed notice under clause 2.16 of the Electricity Industry Participation Code will provide the Authority, and the market, with more information on availability of thermal fuels (gas, solid fuels and diesel) for electricity generation.

Information available to the Authority and the market can be inconsistent, and there is an absence of systematic and timely data about thermal fuel availability.

This inhibits the ability of the Authority to undertake its functions and for market participants to make fully informed risk management decisions.

Submissions close at 5pm, 18 February 2025.
