Real-time dispatch and pricing

Real-time pricing was introduced in the wholesale electricity market on 1 November 2022, replacing the ex-post pricing regime in place from the time the market started on 1 October 1996.

Dispatch prices—nodal energy and island reserve—are produced throughout a trading period at intervals ranging from one to several minutes in duration.

At the end of the trading period, interim prices for the trading period will be calculated as the time-weighted average of the dispatch prices for that period.

If no pricing error claims are subsequently lodged, interim prices will be declared to be final prices by 2pm the following business day. The wholesale market will be settled on final prices. Part 13 of the Code describes in detail how real-time dispatch and pricing in the wholesale market is undertaken.

A number of datasets related to real-time dispatch and pricing are made available. In many instances, the dataset will be derived from the real-time dispatch (RTD) SPD case file.

Dispatch and pricing datasets pertaining to the period prior to 1 November 2022 are archived.
