Notice to distributors – improving the accuracy of the Electricity Registry

We’re reminding distributors to ensure they select the correct fuel type when entering information in the Electricity Registry, following the addition of new options added late last year.

In late 2023, we added three new categories to the Electricity Registry to capture more detailed information about distributed generation (DG) on the networks.

The categories are:

  • ‘solar + battery’ – solar PV generation and a battery
  • ‘wind + battery’ – wind turbine and a battery
  • ‘standalone batt’ – battery only, excludes EV batteries in a vehicle-to-grid configuration.

However, some participants are continuing to use the ‘other’ option in the registry instead of these DG options. To ensure information in the registry provides accurate and granular DG information, please ensure this information is entered in its most complete form.

The purpose of these changes was to give registry users (eg, distributors, retailers) a better idea of where and what DG is on the network. This means they’re better able to utilise the energy it generates when it’s needed, and have clearer visibility of network capacity, which supports more efficient investment decisions and operations. We expect these efficiencies will flow through to consumers by avoiding unnecessary costs in the long run.

Please refer to our user guide to assist on how to enter distributed generation capacity data into the registry.
