Summary of digitalisation workshop feedback
- Consumers
- Innovation
The Electricity Authority held a series of workshops during September to discuss what’s needed to help New Zealand transition to a more digital electricity system.
The discussions drew on the June 2025 discussion paper, Our future is digital, and the feedback we received, to dive deeper into key themes and issues.
We received a wealth of feedback from the workshops, which is informing our work to develop a roadmap of actions to help drive digitalisation across all points of New Zealand’s electricity system.
Key themes raised across the workshops included:
- having New Zealand-focused solutions and recognising the critical nature of electricity
- developing data-sharing infrastructure and establishing open standards for data access/exchange
- educating consumers on what products and tools are available for them to get the most value (eg, reducing their costs, increasing convenience) and understanding their electricity needs and behaviour
- understanding where AI could be used and the risks
- pursuing no-regrets solutions and iterating rapidly to enable innovation and realise benefits to consumers and the system.
