This note is not part of the amendment, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This amendment to the Electricity Industry Participation Code ("Code") comes into force on 1 May 2024. The amendment amends clause 1.1 and Schedule 8.3, Technical Code B of the Code to clarify the availability and use of 'controllable load'. The amendments allow the system operator to request that distributors provide an indication of their available controllable load by submitting difference bids to the system operator (unless an alternative form is agreed). This will provide the system operator with greater information as to the expected quantity of available controllable load that may be shed by a distributor when instructed to do so during a grid emergency.
