Feedback sought on improving retail market monitoring
- Consumers
- Retail
The Electricity Authority Te Mana Hiko is inviting feedback on how we collect and publish retail data.
We propose to increase and consolidate our collection of retail data by removing multiple overlapping requests and replacing them with a single data request.
This change will enable us to better identify potential issues and make well-informed policy decisions that benefit consumers. It would also align our monitoring of the retail market with how we monitor the wholesale market, giving us wider visibility across the industry.
We are seeking feedback from retailers and interested parties to understand:
- if our proposal for a single retail data request is fit for purpose
- potential costs and benefits of this data request
- any concerns about publishing anonymised retail data.
On 24 January 2024 we presented this proposal in a webinar. Watch the webinar.
We welcome submissions on our consultation paper to retaildata@ea.govt.nz by 5pm on 13 February 2024.
Submissions will be used to analyse the likely benefits and costs of our proposal. We intend to consult on our evaluation of the likely benefits and costs in mid-2024, make a final decision in late 2024 and potentially implement this within two months of that decision.
