Have your say on the costs, benefits and value of ‘network visibility’
- Distribution
We’re seeking early feedback on improving 'network visibility’, including the associated costs, benefits and the value improving network visibility could bring.
We consider improving ‘network visibility’ – where more information about network constraints and capacity is made publicly available and accessible – could bring important benefits to a range of parties.
For example, it could:
- support access seekers’ decisions about where to request a new or upgraded connection
- inform investment decisions about the installation of distributed energy resources
- help identify where on the network distributed energy resources and non-network assets can provide value.
We also think improving network visibility could help ensure New Zealand’s shift towards a decentralised, digitalised electricity system benefits consumers.
We’re in the early stages of this work and want to understand if more needs to be done to ensure efforts to improve network visibility occurs at the right pace and in the right way.
We welcome written feedback on the questions in our brief discussion paper by 5pm, 17 October 2025.
Join our workshop
We also welcome you to join our in-person workshop in Wellington on Thursday 18 September, where we’ll explore the key issues raised in the discussion paper in groups and hear from others.
Please note, numbers for the workshop are limited due to space constraints and there is no option to join remotely.
We will publish summaries of the feedback received at the workshop, which may be used to inform written feedback.
