Quarterly report to the Minister for Energy, January to March 2025

The Electricity Authority Te Mana Hiko’s latest quarterly report to the Minister for Energy, Simon Watts, summarises what we achieved from 1 January to 31 March 2025.

The report shows that we continued to deliver to the Minister’s expectations and activities in our Statement of performance expectations 2024/25 (amended), with 100% of our performance measures and 100% of our market development activities on track to deliver expected outcomes.

Highlights from this reporting period include:

  • continued work to strengthen the wholesale market for winter 2025
  • progress across all eight Energy Competition Task Force initiatives to strengthen the performance of the electricity market for the benefit of consumers
  • implementation of the Consumer Care Obligations to ensure a standard level of care for electricity consumers
  • introduction of mandatory retailer reporting of domestic and small business customer data from August 2025
  • selecting six high-value energy initiatives for enhanced regulatory support through the Power Innovation Pathway
  • $0.9m less expenditure than budgeted for the quarter.

The report includes mapping to show how our activities align with the Statement of Government Policy for the electricity industry.
