Response to the Everyone Connected petition

  • Consumers
  • Retail

On 24 July 2024, the Electricity Authority received a petition signed by 8,047 people raising concerns around electricity disconnection and reconnection fees, and prepay plan pricing and availability of data. The petition also asked the Electricity Authority to follow through on making the Consumer Care Guidelines mandatory.

The Authority's Chief Executive, Sarah Gillies, has responded to the petition, thanking all petitioners for their work to bring these important concerns to our attention and committing the Authority to find a fair solution to these issues that is sustainable and equitable for all.

We're also excited to report that we've released a consultation today that makes progress on our commitment to mandating the Consumer Care Guidelines by 1 January 2025!

This consultation seeks feedback on a proposed Code amendment that will see the protections of the Guidelines included into the Electricity Industry Participation Code 2010 as obligations for retailers and distributors. We welcome submissions by 3 September 2024.
