Hedge arrangement disclosures
Subpart 5 of Part 13 of the Code requires parties to certain electricity hedge arrangements to disclose information about those contracts to the Electricity Authority.
Hedge arrangement disclosures
Disclosing information about electricity hedge contracts helps to:
- compare electricity prices and other key hedge contract terms
- develop historic electricity contract price curves
- support the Electricity Authority's monitoring and assessment of the electricity hedge market under section 16 of the Electricity Industry Act.
The hedge arrangement dataset below contains this disclosed information, with commercially sensitive information removed.
We publish an updated dataset every Wednesday.
About the dataset
The hedge disclosure dataset includes the following information:
- TradingDate – the date on which the hedge transaction occurred
- HedgeContractID – a unique hedge contract identifier generated by the NZX Hedge Disclosure System (HDS)
- ContractComponent – an arbitrary number to replace the identifying node. A hedge contract may consist of many location-based components. The locations are suppressed as part of the dataset anonymisation
- InstrumentCode – a short code denoting the contract instrument type
- Instrument – a description of the contract instrument
- OptionTypeCode – a short code describing the option variant, ie American, Asian or European
- OptionType – a description of the option variant
- ContractStatus – the status of the contract at time of disclosure (see clause 13.227 for greater detail on the verification process)
- EnergyTypeCode – a code denoting whether the contracted energy is for consumption (C) or generation (G)
- VolumeTypeCode – a code denoting the volume profile: F for flat or V for variable (applies only to legacy contracts)
- FuelCode – a code denoting the type of fuel used at the generating station or stations
- Fuel – a short description of the fuel type
- TechnologyCode – a code denoting the generation technology
- Technology – a short description of the generation technology
- EffectiveStartDate – the date on which the contract provisions take effect
- EffectiveEndDate – the date on which the contract provisions end
- OptionSwaptionFlag – a flag (Y/N) indicating whether the contract is a swaption
- DemandResponseFlag – a flag (Y/N) indicating whether the contract includes a demand response aspect for contracts not explicitly defined to be a demand response instrument
- AdjustmentClauseFlag – a flag (Y/N) indicating the contract contains adjustment clauses
- ForceMajeureClauseFlag – a flag (Y/N) indicating the contract contains force majeure clauses
- SuspensionClauseFlag – a flag (Y/N) indicating the contract contains suspension clauses
- SpecialCreditClauseFlag – a flag (Y/N) indicating the contract contains special credit clauses
- OtherClausesFlag – a flag (Y/N) indicating the contract contains other clause types not specifically flagged
- ISDAScheduleUsedFlag – a flag (Y/N) indicating the contract makes use of an ISDA schedule. An ISDA agreement is a standardised legal framework used globally to govern over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives transactions, providing clarity, risk management, and enforceable contractual terms. ISDA stands for the International Swaps and Derivatives Association, and is a widely used contract framework for OTC contracts
- ForAllTradingPeriodsFlag – a flag (Y/N) indicating the contract applies to all trading periods throughout the duration of the contract

- Zone – a short description of the zone
- IslandCode – a code denoting New Zealand's two main islands, NI and SI
- SubmittedMegawattHours – the total contract quantity as specified by the submitting participant over all nodes for a given HedgeContractID, megawatt-hours
- CalculatedMegawattHours – the total contract quantity as calculated by the HDS based on the submitted hedge price schedule for the specified node, megawatt-hours
- TimeWeightedDollarsPerMegawattHour – the time-weighted average price of the contract, dollars per megawatt-hour
- LoadWeightedDollarsPerMegawattHour – the load-weighted average price of the contract, dollars per megawatt-hour
- PremiumDollars – the premium baked into the contract, dollars.
The hedge disclosure dataset includes contracts from 2008 onwards.
