Thermal fuel information
The availability of gas, solid fuel and diesel for the generation of electricity.
Why thermal fuel information is important
Information about how much thermal fuel (gas, solid fuels and diesel) is available in New Zealand’s power system is important for understanding electricity security of supply risks. It also helps market participants to make informed risk management decisions.
This data is provided to the Electricity Authority Te Mana Hiko from thermal generators under clause 2.16 of the Electricity Industry Participation Code 2010 and is updated monthly.
Disclaimer
This information is published on a best-endeavours basis. It should not be considered as definitive and is subject to change. The Electricity Authority takes no responsibility for the completeness, accuracy or reliability of this information.
This data should be considered in the broader energy context eg, alongside public announcements by thermal generators about the availability of thermal fuels.
Additional disclaimer for contracted gas information
While reasonable care has been used to provide this information, gas delivery and forecast deliverability fluctuate considerably, due to factors impacting the operation and performance of the gas reservoirs, gas wells, associated subsurface and production infrastructure, and transmission pipelines. Any of these factors could result in lower or higher figures. As such, these figures may not represent the actual volumes of gas delivered for use in the generation of electricity or that may in future be delivered for use in the generation of electricity.
The reported contracted gas volumes could decrease significantly depending on the outcome of the Nova/Methanex litigation.
