Authority issues RFP for the next Commercial Market Making contract

- Innovation
The Electricity Authority Te Mana Hiko (Authority) has started a competitive procurement process for its commercial market making scheme. A Request for Proposal (RFP) is now available on the Government Electronic Tender Service (GETS).
Market making supports New Zealand’s electricity futures market by providing continuous buy and sell prices. This helps participants manage price risk and supports reliable price signals.
Alongside the regulated market making provided by large gentailers, the Authority contracts an independent commercial market maker. This is funded through the Electricity Industry Levy. This role provides an additional view of future electricity prices and helps build market confidence.
The new contract will begin on 1 March 2027. It will run for up to five years, with an initial three-year term and the option to extend for a further two years. It will also reflect recent updates made following a review of the market making settings.
This is an opportunity for a supplier to play an important role in keeping New Zealand’s electricity market efficient and resilient.
More details and the RFP documents are available on GETS. Interested providers must register and subscribe to the notice there to access the documents and receive updates.
