Centralised wind and solar forecaster contract awarded

- Policy
The Electricity Authority Te Mana Hiko (Authority) has awarded a contract to provide centralised wind and solar forecasting services to DNV Services.
A new hybrid forecasting arrangement to improve the accuracy of intermittent generation forecasts and offers takes effect on 31 July 2025.
DNV Services was selected after a competitive selection process, including a trial to assess the accuracy of potential providers’ forecasts.
The Authority is confident new hybrid forecasting arrangements, including DNV as the centralised forecaster, will improve the accuracy of intermittent generation offers. Increased forecast accuracy will enhance the reliability and efficiency of the electricity system and reduce costs for consumers.
From 31 July 2025, most intermittent generators in New Zealand will be required to use DNV’s forecasts to inform their generation offers.
Intermittent generators can use an alternative forecast if they meet the Authority’s forecast performance standards. Application details for alternative forecasts are available on our website: Guidance for intermittent generators wishing to use an alternative to the centralised forecast | Electricity Authority
