New hybrid forecasting arrangement starts 31 July

  • Generation
  • Policy

On 31 July 2025 the Electricity Authority Te Mana Hiko is introducing a new hybrid forecasting arrangement to improve the accuracy of intermittent generation forecasts and offers.

This represents a four-week delay from the timeframe previously communicated, as we have taken additional time to select a preferred centralised forecast provider.

Some intermittent generators have indicated they may struggle to make the necessary system changes by 31 July 2025. We will work with them to ensure they can achieve compliance as soon as possible.

Intermittent generators wishing to use their own forecasts need to complete this application form. We are in the process of finalising guidance that explains the process intermittent generators must go through to seek our approval. We will publish this guidance in due course.
