Feedback on 11 April under-frequency event sought

  • Compliance

We are seeking feedback from generators, the grid owner and other participants who may be substantially affected by the under-frequency event of 11 April 2024.

You can read the draft determination of causer for the under-frequency event (UFE) and provide your feedback to us by 5pm on 22 August 2024.

A UFE occurs when the frequency falls below 49.25Hz because of a loss of injection of more than 60 megawatts into the grid.

The Electricity Authority’s draft determination (under clause 8.61 of the Electricity Industry Participation Code 2010) for the UFE of 11 April 2024 is that Genesis Energy Limited, as a generator, was the causer. Reasons for this are outlined in the draft determination paper.

We welcome feedback on both the draft determination as well as the system operator’s calculation of the megawatts of power lost during the event.

All submissions will be considered before a determination on the UFE is made final.
