- Wholesale
The first mandatory trading session for standardised super-peak contracts takes place on 11 August 2026.
The session, to be conducted on the new over-the-counter trading platform operated by Marex NZ Ltd, will be first time market makers will be required to trade super-peak contracts.
Amendments to market making settings in the Electricity Industry Participation Code (Code) came into force on 31 July 2026, by which date participants subject to the requirements had to ensure their systems and processes complied with the Code.
The changes were announced in April in our Market making review – strengthening price discovery in the forward electricity markets decision paper.
In addition to the amendments, minor technical changes to improve the operation of the market making compliance framework have also been implemented.
Any participants wishing to take part in the 11 August trading session should ensure they are registered and onboarded on the Marex platform.
Please contact electricitynz@marex.com for any questions about registering for or participating in these sessions.
More information on standardised super-peak trading sessions is available on our hedge market webpage.
The Electricity Authority has also amended the market making requirements for baseload contracts traded on the ASX. From 1 March 2027, market making requirements for quarterly contracts will extend from 3 to 5 years. This timing aligns with the commercial market maker procurement process.
