Future operation of New Zealand's power system
Consultation
This consultation seeks feedback from interested parties on the key drivers for change and the challenges and opportunities with power system operation in New Zealand over the coming decade and beyond.
New Zealand has committed to a target of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 (excluding biogenic methane). Achieving this will require:
- increased electrification of sectors of the economy, such as transport and industrial processes
- meeting increased electricity demand with renewable electricity generation.
This will have a significant effect on power system operation. We want to hear your views on the potential challenges and opportunities that we have identified in our consultation paper, and any others you consider important. We will then consider the feedback received and appropriate next steps.
We look forward to your engagement and submissions on this consultation.
Note we have extended the submission deadline to 5pm on Friday 19 April 2024.
