Future Security and Resilience roadmap update
Consultation
The purpose of this document is to provide an update on the activities set out in the Authority’s original Future Security and Resilience (FSR) roadmap published in 2022. It also outlines reasons for revised timelines for selected activities.
The update reflects significant developments in the power system and the Authority’s work programme since the roadmap was first published.
This document:
- updates descriptions and implementation timelines across most of the existing activities.
- incorporates the Future System Operation workstream1, which was not included in the original version of the roadmap.
We will continue to monitor system conditions and emerging risks and periodically review the FSR roadmap. Where evidence indicates that earlier intervention is required, the timing and prioritisation of regulatory work will be reconsidered. We will publish further updates where material changes to roadmap priorities, activities, or timeframes are identified.
Although the publication of the updated FSR roadmap does not represent a formal Authority consultation, we welcome feedback from interested parties by 8 December 2026. Feedback can be sent to fsr@ea.govt.nz.
