Review of security of supply standards
Consultation
We are seeking feedback on two interim improvements to the Security Standards Assumptions Document (SSAD) to ensure the security of supply standards remain fit for purpose as the electricity system evolves.
The changes focus on demand forecasting and generation pipeline assumptions. While a broader review of the standards is being undertaken for the 2028 Security of Supply Assessment (SOSA), these improvements could be implemented for the 2027 SOSA.
The current standards were established in 2012 and last reviewed in 2018. Since then, the electricity system has changed significantly, with growing investment in wind and solar generation, the emergence of grid-scale batteries, changing roles for thermal generation, and shifts in fuel availability and costs. These changes make it timely to update the assumptions that underpin the standards.
We welcome feedback on our proposals by 5pm, 17 November 2026.
