Electricity Authority determines Edendale is a non-conforming grid exit point
- Wholesale
The Electricity Authority has reclassified the grid exit point at Edendale (EDN3301), in the lower South Island, from conforming to non-conforming.
This decision follows a request for reconsideration from the System Operator.
We deemed the grid exit point EDN0331 as non-conforming because it does not follow a predictable daily demand pattern. This makes it hard for the System Operator to forecast its load.
This decision is based on the methodology outlined in Schedule 13.7 of the Electricity Industry Participation Code 2010 and Criterion 2 (Forecasting accuracy at industrial GXP).
Purchasers at this location are now required to prepare their own forecasts of electricity usage for market scheduling purposes (in the form of nominated bids).
This classification comes into effect from 12.00pm, Monday 8 September 2025.
All purchasers have the right to request a reconsideration of this and other grid exit point classifications (clause 13.27H of the Code) by email to info@ea.govt.nz.
