Authority determines two Hāwera grid exit points as non-conforming

The Electricity Authority Te Mana Hiko has reclassified two grid exit points at Hāwera (HWA1101 and HWA1102), from conforming to non-conforming.

This decision follows a reconsideration request from the System Operator.

We determined the grid exit points HWA1101 and HWA1102 as non-conforming because we expect they will not follow a predictable daily demand pattern from 1 August 2026 (after the installation of electrode boilers). This will make it hard for the System Operator to forecast their load.

This decision is based on Criterion 2 (forecasting accuracy at industrial GXP).

What this means

Purchasers at these locations will now be required to prepare their own forecasts of electricity usage for market scheduling purposes (in the form of nominated bids).

This classification will come into effect at 1pm, Saturday 1 August 2026.
