Call for nominations for the Common Quality Technical Group
- Code
- Low emissions
The Electricity Authority Te Mana Hiko is calling for nominations for a new member to join the Common Quality Technical Group.
This is a key opportunity to contribute to the Authority’s highest priority initiative on the future security and resilience roadmap. The CQTG was established in June 2023 to provide independent advice to the Authority as part of its review of common quality requirements in Part 8 of the Electricity Industry Participation Code 2010 (Code).
This is a technically complex area that requires a deep understanding of power system operations across both transmission and distribution networks, as well as the operation of generation and demand-side management technologies.
The review aims to address issues that could have significant impacts on consumers and the electricity industry, including ensuring emerging technologies are not unfairly disadvantaged and improving how risks such as power supply interruptions or damage to electrical equipment are managed and mitigated.
To support continuity, the Authority has also extended the terms of current CQTG members by 12 months, through to 30 June 2026.
About the role
We are particularly interested in nominations from individuals with:
- Strong engineering expertise; and
- Specialist knowledge of geothermal generation technologies
In making its appointments to the CQTG, the Authority is seeking a membership that collectively has excellent knowledge and experience of the following:
(a) power systems engineering and analysis;
(b) the operation of transmission and distribution networks, including power quality (frequency, voltage, harmonics) and factors that influence power quality such as inertia and system strength;
(c) generation technologies;
(d) demand-side management technologies;
(e) the operation of the wholesale electricity market; and
(f) the economic and other impacts on consumers, industry participants, and other stakeholders from the decisions and actions of parties who influence common quality.
We are looking for someone who will consider the long-term interests of consumers, provide impartial advice and contribute effectively to the CQTG’s tasks.
Nominations process
Any organisation or individual can make nominations.
Nominations are to be in writing and should include:
(a) a brief summary of the relevant expertise and experience of the person being nominated;
(b) contact details for both the person being nominated, and for the individual or organisation making the nomination; and
(c) evidence that the person being nominated agrees to the nomination (eg, an email from the nominee, agreeing to be nominated).
Nominations should be emailed to fsr@ea.govt.nz, with ‘Nomination for CQTG’ in the subject line, and must be received by the Authority by 5pm, Tuesday 22 July 2025.
Please contact fsr@ea.govt.nz if you have any questions.
