Industry Exercise: 8 May 2024

The second day of the 2024 Industry Exercise is this Wednesday 8 May. We look forward to retailers and lines companies coming together across the motu to test communications from the system operator out through lines companies to retailers and to end consumers.

This simulated grid emergency exercise is a key part of our work with the wider industry and system operator to rehearse and reinforce processes for managing and responding to potential electricity supply shortfalls.

Last year’s exercise proved invaluable and we thank all industry participants for their engagement this year to help make sure we are well prepared, as an industry, for a major power system event.

The system operator led the first day of the Industry Exercise last week with control room operators. Nearly 80 people from most of New Zealand’s generators and local lines companies took part, as well as some of the major industrial customers that connect directly to the grid.

We look forward to sharing lessons learned from both days.
