Quarterly report to the Minister for Energy, 1 April – 30 June 2026

The Electricity Authority Te Mana Hiko’s latest quarterly report to the Minister for Energy, Simeon Brown, shows the mahi we have been delivering to ensure the electricity system delivers reliable electricity at lowest cost for New Zealand consumers.

Highlights from 1 April to 30 June 2026 include:

• Supporting competition with new ‘level playing field’ non-discrimination obligations for gentailers to supply hedge contracts on an even-handed basis to all buyers
• Supporting system security, flexibility and affordability through proposed changes to how battery energy storage systems operate in the market
• Reining in high up-front charges to connect to local networks through new network connection pricing reforms
• Strengthening competition, system reliability and affordability through refreshed Energy Competition Task Force priorities
• Improving consumer information and choice through an enhanced regional power prices dashboard and our new solar installations map

The report also sets out progress against our Statement of performance expectations 2025/26. All 17 of our performance measures and all 12 strategic activities – which show how we are working to ensure affordable, reliable electricity for consumers – were on track or completed at the end of the financial year.
