System operator consulting on the 2023 security of supply assessment
- Generation
Transpower, as the system operator, is responsible for publishing the medium-term security of supply assessment (SOSA) each year.
Transpower is seeking feedback on the draft 2023 SOSA to consider prior to its final publication. Submissions are invited by 26 May 2023. View consultation.
The SOSA provides a 10-year assessment, from 2023 to 2032, of the balance between supply and demand in the New Zealand electricity system. It informs risk management and investment decisions by generators, other market participants, and investors.
The assessment forms part of New Zealand’s electricity security of supply framework, as described in the Security of Supply Forecasting and Information Policy and the Emergency Management Policy.
