Trends in available residential pricing plans
- Retail
- Prices
A new report on the trend in available residential pricing plans, or tariffs, over time is available on the Electricity Market Information website.
The report uses data provided by Consumer NZ and extracted from the tariff database that underpins the Powerswitch price comparison service at www.powerswitch.org.nz.
The data provides an initial view into pricing plan options for consumers as the Authority seeks to improve monitoring and gain a better understanding of the mix of pricing plan types that consumers can choose to use.
Early indications from the data suggest retailers are offering residential pricing plans with time of use more often. Time of use pricing plans reward consumers who are able to avoid using electricity at peak times when prices may be high and the supply-demand balance tight.
Our current consultation on Improving retail market monitoring: amended information notice and updated analysis will allow us to better understand what plans are available to consumers.
