Voluntary super-peak trading sessions for new OTC trading platform

Two voluntary trading sessions for standardised super-peak hedge contracts will take place in July on the new over-the-counter trading platform.

In April 2026, Marex NZ Ltd was chosen by an Industry Selection Panel to provide an over-the-counter trading platform for market making standardised super-peak contracts. The new trading platform will replace one provided since January 2025 by Aotearoa Energy.

Ahead of mandatory market making requirements for standardised super-peak contracts coming into effect on 31 July, the final two voluntary sessions (14 and 28 July) will be conducted on the Marex platform. Moving the platform for these sessions will support the transition to the new provider.

Participants wishing to take part in these trading sessions should ensure they are registered and onboarded on the Marex platform ahead of 14 July.

Please contact electricitynz@marex.com for any questions about registering for or participating in these sessions.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Aotearoa Energy for their significant contribution to support the establishment of voluntary trading of standardised super-peak contracts. Their platform and services have played a central part in establishing this new market and helping participants engage with the product during the initial phase.
