Latest Code changes improve clarity and support our evolving electricity system
- Code
The Electricity Authority Te Mana Hiko (Authority) has decided to implement 13 of the 14 proposals included in its latest Electricity Industry Participation Code (Code) review programme.
These amendments will improve the clarity and effectiveness of the Code and help ensure industry regulations continue to support New Zealand's evolving electricity system.
This is the Authority's seventh Code review programme. The programme brings together a number of discrete amendments into a single process, helping to keep the Code up to date through regular improvements.
We considered feedback received during consultation and have decided to implement all but one of the proposed changes. These include various minor amendments, clarifications and corrections. We have decided not to proceed with the proposal to clarify that several points of connection may be recorded under a single ICP identifier.
We also intend to make four additional minor amendments which were not part of the proposed corrections included with the consultation paper. Under section 39(3) of the Electricity Industry Act, these do not require consultation, but a draft of these amendments is published in the decision paper.
Twelve of the Code amendments will take effect on 1 September 2026. One amendment will take effect on 30 October 2026.
