Updates to the Authority’s compliance strategy and monitoring framework

  • Code
  • Compliance

The Electricity Authority Te Mana Hiko (Authority) has published updates to its compliance strategy and monitoring framework to ensure our approach is fit for purpose and relevant for 2026.

These updates reflect our increased focus on consumers and add the following two new high-priority areas for monitoring:

  • revisions of submission information for reconciliation
  • restrictions on materially large contracts

We encourage industry participants to:

  • review our updated compliance strategy and monitoring framework
  • consider how the new priority areas may affect your obligations
  • get in touch if you have any feedback or questions, by contacting compliance@ea.govt.nz

The Government recently announced it was considering legislative changes to strengthen the Authority’s enforcement powers. Should legislative changes be made, the Authority will review and update our compliance strategy and monitoring framework, as appropriate.
