Security of supply assessment: reference case assumptions and sensitivities consultation

  • Generation

The system operator is calling for feedback on the reference case assumptions and sensitivities it proposes using to develop the 2024 Security of Supply Assessment.

Transpower develops the assessment every year in its system operator role to provide a ten-year view of the energy and capacity margins in Aotearoa’s electricity system.

The reference case represents the resources expected to be available to the market in the future. Sensitivities are then applied based on a number of supply and demand scenarios, such as demand rising much faster than forecast or major industrial users ceasing to operate.

The assessment is a useful resource for market participants, investors and industry stakeholders to gain a ten-year outlook at how different supply and demand conditions impact the forecast energy and capacity margins. Also, how these margins compare against the Code-specified security standards.

You are invited to read the consultation document and provide feedback to system.operator@transpower.co.nz by 5 December 2023.
