Exploring plug-in generation and Code improvements for export limits and connection processes
Consultation
The Electricity Authority is consulting on how New Zealand's electricity rules should support plug-in generation if it becomes legal in the future (this is a decision for other regulators), and improvements to distributed generation (DG) connections.
We are seeking feedback on:
- how the Electricity Industry Participation Code can support the safe and efficient uptake of plug-in generation if the broader electrical safety regulations allow it.
- clarifications to improve the efficiency of small-scale DG connection processes, including the application of export limits.
We welcome feedback by 5pm, Tuesday 6 October 2026.

We welcome submissions in Microsoft Word in the format shown in Appendix C for plug-in generation and Appendix D for DG-related Code improvements to connection.feedback@ea.govt.nz by 5pm, Tuesday 6 October 2026.
