A review of our consultation and feedback processes to ensure we meet our new statutory objective "to protect the interests of domestic and small business consumers".

Overview

As a result of the Electricity Industry Amendment Act 2022, we're working to adopt the latest best practice in consultation and engagement so that we better serve the industry and consumers.

We consulted on establishing a new advisory group to provide technical expertise to our strategic work programme and better represent the interests of consumers. We also consulted on amendments to the Code to streamline the review, consultation and approval of system operation documents. View consultation.

Thanks to all submitters who contributed their insights and perspectives. We received 20 submissions. We will be undertaking four workstreams to advance the proposals.

Project background

The Electricity Industry Amendment Act 2022 made changes to the Electricity Industry Act 2010. It added a new statutory objective for the Electricity Authority "to protect the interests of domestic and small business consumers in relation to the supply of electricity to those consumers". The 2019 Electricity Price Review also made recommendations on making our consultation processes more accessible to consumers.

As a result, we have reviewed our consultation charter to address our new statutory objective, to ensure it remains fit for purpose and adopts a best practice approach to consultation and engagement.

We propose establishing a new advisory group and amending the Code to streamline the review, consultation and approval of system operation documents, to better serve the industry and consumers.
